The special thing about The Dutch Swing College Band is that they have retained that popularity from then until today, a unique achievement. Started as an amateur orchestra in 1960, after returning from a 5-year absence by founder Peter Schilperoort, the band became professional. Since 1990 Bob Kaper has been the leader of the oldest existing jazz band in the Netherlands. The repertoire is broad and moves between dixieland and swing. They play on all continents and have always retained their specific sound. The band swings as always irresistible and the game is always taken care of.
The Dutch Swing College Band often played in Porgy and Bess in the sixties and seventies. The special feature of the Dutch Swing College Band is that it has always rejuvenated itself and still fully lives up to its great reputation as a carrier of tradition. In the fall of 2018, the band received well-deserved recognition with an invitation to the annual benefit concert for the Nederlands Jazz Archief. At the time, they also played two pieces by avant-garde composer Mischa Mengelberg for a passionate audience of seasoned jazz lovers.

This performance takes place in the context of the national celebration of 75 years of Freedom, which will start in Terneuzen on 31 August, after the Battle of the Scheldt, after D-day the largest military operation for the liberation of Western Europe.
