Awarded **** in "de Volkskrant": Femke and Celia have an idiosyncratic way of dealing with music. They work from a certain atmosphere, time or place, from which the repertoire becomes apparent, instead of the other way around. Four years after their first performance, they are fully attuned to each other and the collaboration is a well-oiled machine with strong and outspoken musical ideas.

Both ladies were on our stage before; Femke with the Syrène saxophone quartet she founded and Celia as accompanist for the double bassist Dominic Seldis. Today they perform as a duo with a wonderful program!

We hear from, among others, the relatively unknown composer Paule Maurice (1910-1967) the collection of five parts consisting of 'Tableaux de Provence' and with 'Iberia' by Isaac Albéniz we are in his impressionistic Spain. Come and enjoy this beautiful performance and discover more gems!

Femke IJlstra is one of the most successful saxophonists of her generation. The public, jury and press are impressed by her versatility and expressiveness. Femke took the saxophone all over the world. She has given concerts in the US, Canada, South America, Asia and all over Europe. Since completing her master's degree 'cum laude' with Arno Bornkamp in Amsterdam, she regularly plays in the world's leading orchestras such as the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam, Budapest Festival Orchestra and the Tonhalle Orchester Zurich. Femke IJlstra is one of the youngest female professors in Europe and has held this position since she was 29. Femke loves chamber music: she is the founder of the young Syrène Saxophone Quartet and played soprano saxophone in the renowned Aurelia Saxophone Quartet. She teaches at the Prince Claus Conservatoire in Groningen.

Celia is a classical pianist, praised for her versatility and virtuosity. Celia García-García specializes in orchestral playing (piano, celesta and synthesizer) and has recently performed with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, the Noord Nederlands Orkest, the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra, Amsterdam Sinfonietta and Het Balletorkest. As an orchestra musician she came into contact with the celesta and has since become a true ambassador for the instrument. Celia is a much sought-after and experienced chamber musician who has given concerts throughout the Netherlands and in Spain, Belgium, Germany, Russia, Canada and China with her regular ensembles; Duo IJlstra-García, duo with Bernadeta Astari and the Codigo Trio. She teaches Classical Repertoire and Technique at the Utrecht Conservatory and Correpetitor at the Fontys Conservatory in Tilburg.
