The gifted cellist Lidy Blijdorp and the Romanian master on the cimbalom, Vasile Nedea, will bring an exciting mix of folk and classical music from the Balkans this afternoon. You will hear dazzling solos on cimbalom from the rich Roma tradition, but also a beautiful adaptation of the Hungarian dances of Johannes Brahms. Between the Romanian and Hungarian sounds, Lidy makes trips to Bach and plays works by the famous Catalan cellist Pablo Casals. Improvisation in classical music, you don't hear that often. Violinist Merel Vercammen changes this with her new album The Zoo, which consists entirely of improvised music. 'I want to bring surprise back to the genre.', Headlined the NOS in September 2019. Merel Vercammen invited eight musicians to record duo improvisations, and the result is a collection of “instant compositions” that reminded her of animals. Two of these musicians are accordionist Wilco Oomkes and cellist Maya Fridman. In this concert Maya, Wilco and Merel play a number of free improvisations according to the concept of The Zoo, as well as a number of classical compositions by Franck, Purcell and Bartók. Read more

De beide musici hebben sinds de oprichting van Bilitis in 2004 naam gemaakt door hun boeiende en spraakmakende programma’s en intense samenspel.
